Get a Second Opinion Before Neuroma Surgery
Get a Second Opinion Before Neuroma Surgery
Foot nerve surgery is not reversible. Before committing to neurectomy — nerve removal — it is always reasonable to seek a second opinion from a specialist who performs nerve-preserving procedures.
When to Seek a Second Opinion
- You have been recommended neurectomy (nerve removal surgery)
- You have had prior neuroma surgery with persistent or recurrent pain
- You are unsure whether your diagnosis is correct
- Your symptoms have not responded to conservative treatments as expected
- You want to explore nerve-preserving surgical options before proceeding
- You have been told “there is nothing more that can be done”
What Dr. Bregman’s Evaluation Includes
- Full clinical examination of the foot and affected nerve
- Imaging review — your existing MRI or ultrasound, or new imaging if needed
- Complete treatment history review including all prior procedures
- Clear explanation of all available options including nerve decompression
- Honest assessment of whether surgery is indicated and which type
Patients travel from across the US and internationally for Dr. Bregman’s evaluations.
Nerve Decompression: A Surgery Most Patients Are Never Offered
Many patients with Morton’s neuroma are taken directly to neurectomy — nerve removal — without being evaluated for nerve decompression. Decompression is a nerve-preserving procedure with a 85% long-term success rate in appropriately selected patients, and carries none of the permanent risks of neurectomy (numbness, stump neuroma).
Ready for a Second Opinion?
Dr. Bregman welcomes patients seeking second opinions before surgery or after a prior procedure that did not deliver the expected result. A thorough evaluation will give you the information you need to make the right decision.
